This first episode is just me, setting the table for what this show is and why I am making it.
I have spent my career in high-pressure environments, building and leading products and systems where getting it wrong was not an option. Military applications, scientific instruments, medical devices, industrial systems, and more recently as the head of SmartThings, Samsung's smart home platform, which has grown from a startup to hundreds of millions of users. This podcast is a personal initiative, separate from that role, and rooted in something I have been thinking about for a long time. Across all of it, one thing has been constant. Pressure.
Not the kind that breaks people, though I have seen that too. The kind that reveals things. What a team is actually made of. What an organization actually values. Whether the systems, structures, and culture we build are strong enough to hold when the environment stops being forgiving. I have learned more about leadership from high-pressure environments than from any book or course. This show is where we explore that, in honest conversation with leaders who have lived it.
